Its been a few years since I started this blog in 2008, and a great many things have changed in the world. Buying an island and making your own country has become easier in some ways and more difficult in others.

If you really want to be a dictator, then there are plenty of opportunities for you!

Dictators are the undisputed rulers of their own nations who keep in power through coercion or brutally oppressing their peoples. There are fewer dictatorships in the world today, and many use the cloak of democracy to cover their tracks, but in the lesser developed places of Africa, Asia and South America a dictator can still rule!

If you wish to be a dictator, let me give you some advice on getting into power.

1. You can overthrow an existing democracy and take control.: Using subterfuge and sabotage you can rally the people behind you to overthrow non-functional democracies and create your new nation! If you're good at public speaking, lying and tricking stupid people then this is the route for you! Plus, with overthrowing existing democracies or sudo-democracies a lot of the work building and establishing the country is already done. Stick a new label on that baby and the countries yours!

2. You can raise an army in a small nation and easily overthrow the existing rulers.: Example after example of this continues in Africa today. Sure, the country you will inherit is weak, powerless, corrupt and most likely bankrupt, the people might be uneducated, poor and starving. But hey, you're 'El Presidente' of those starving masses! In Africa right now (08/13/2013) there are separatist movements attempting to overthrow and rebel against their governments all over the place. To really make sure your rebellion sticks and other countries don't come in to stop you, you had best make sure that the country you are overthrowing is rich in natural resources or that you have some powerful allies overseas, otherwise the US, UN or some other scoot could come in and force you out of power! Make sure to offer your nations precious minerals cheap and the country can be all yours. This method has a few steps to it.

-Raise an army: little armies come cheap and with AK-47s at low low $5-10 dollar prices in Africa you can be sure to have all the weapons you'll need. Small African nations often have few allies, small poorly-trained armies with old outdated equipment, so get a few homies with grenade launchers and the place is practically yours! With so many weapons and mercenaries floating around after the Arab Spring, you could definitely round up a small posse with no problems.

-Keep in power: offer your friends and enemies a better deal than the previous regime by lowering all rights for workers, letting companies pollute your nation and offering sweet deals for mineral exploration companies.

No, this is a page describing how you can make your very own country. Now, for some people this may sound stupid, but please, let me explain.

I'm talking about making a country. But, there are many ways to do this. You might own a lot of land and decide that you want to be part of something new. You might own an island and declare independence. However you do it, making a country can be very rewarding.

You might make your country to protest about something. You might make a country so you can stop idiots getting in. You might start a country so that you can be the ruler. You might start so that you can create, like many have tried before, a utopian society. Then again, you could do it just for the sheer awesomeness of the thing. This page is just describing some of many ways you could do this, if you're not interested, than you've probably already gone.

Here are some simple steps to making a country:

Step 1.: Decide what kind of country you would make and why, maybe you could use one of the reasons listed above, or, just come up with your own.

Step 2.: Work out how much money will be involved. Now, this is important. If you plan to spend nothing, then aim small and build yourself up. Many projects have been created using no money and just a little bit of effort. However, if you really want to impress with your nation, try spending some ridiculous amount, but have a good look in the market first. Decide, do you want an island, or just land. If you want an island visit here, if you want land, decide on the place, decide how much you will spend, and then do it. Generally even just small islands are very expensive. Heres an example, at present (06/26/08) an island called "Ronde Island," an island of 2000 acres is being sold for $100,000,000. But, for only $20,000,000 in Western Australia, you can buy 30,000 acres. That's about the same size as Washington D.C!

Step 3.: Be committed: If you really want your own country it takes a little effort. Not only do you have to buy and run the island but there are problems of electricity, water supply, food supply and invasion. In 1972 a group of "freedom fighters" who seeked to make their own utopia, landed on the Minervan reefs and decided to stay. They began building buildings and making there two atolls into the "Republic of Minerva." Unfortunately for them, people from neighboring countries noticed them an within only hours the army from Tonga, a small island nation in the Pacific (Close-ish to Hawaii), came and captured the islands for themselves. That group had apparently raised nearly $100,000,000 for their cause.
